Carmelo Frisenna of the Uniterra Sicilia Group - Arancia Loretta

Positive feedback on Sicilian oranges from both business and consumer clients

The work on the Arancia Loretta range of blonde and red citrus fruits is unceasing, and the 2023/24 campaign is no exception in terms of quality and flavor. In fact, the trend in production is more than positive and is not at all affected by the competition from foreign countries, as is shown by the stable sales of the company. Carmelo Frisenna, sales manager of Uniterra Sicilia Group-Arancia Loretta, explains that the company supplies citrus fruits to Northern Italy and Northern European countries like Sweden and Norway.

"Although I know we can always grow and improve, we are satisfied with the work we have done so far with Northern Italy," says Frisenna, "and especially with the Scandinavian countries, which have now discovered the quality of our products. There seems to be a slight decrease in the sales in the Italian supermarkets in comparison with the previous year, but we are still optimistic. Some other countries, like Spain and Morocco, have the same products on the market, but we don't fear the competition because we know the quality and the value of our oranges, whether blonde or red, thanks to our daily work, meticulous and accurate, that begins at sunrise in our country, our most valuable asset.”

Even in 2024, Arancia Loretta stands out for the characteristics that have been handed down from generation to generation by the Frisenna family, which has always given priority to commitment, sacrifice and dedication, because it is a great responsibility to offer a product with an authentic taste, while striving for the best, despite critical issues such as climatic conditions that have changed the course of production, harvesting and commercialization. The cultivation and marketing of the Etna blood orange remains intact thanks to a consolidated productive, commercial and professional staff that respects the needs of the market, in compliance with the PGI product that grows on the slopes of Etna.

"The climatic conditions, with the lack of rain, have caused some problems for the cultivation of citrus in general", says the Sales Manager, "and although the size of our oranges has slightly decreased, they have not lost the pigmentation and the flavor characteristics that are known throughout the world; on the contrary, they are above average. I say this on the basis of the feedback I get from both business and private customers who have chosen Arancia Loretta. Speaking of climatic conditions and more, it has become known that the Sicilian Region could help the citrus sector by allocating funds through the Stability Law. We will see.”

Considering the long-standing irrigation problem in the area, both the sector and companies such as Uniterra Sicilia Group - Arancia Loretta, remain hopeful that for the coming season some problems can be resolved through structural investments. The citrus sector, one of the driving forces of Sicilian agriculture, deserves the renovation of irrigation channels and reservoirs, such as the Biviere di Lentini, the Ponte Barca dam and many others.
