Agrieuropa from Terracina illustrates what's new for 2024

"We bet on bell peppers to widen our range"

2024 at Agrieuropa will see the introduction of a new spring/summer product - bell peppers. There will also be a new format for lamb's lettuce. In 2023, the company had announced the production of celeriac.

"We harvest the celeriac sown in early December between April and early June. We are currently completing transplants, and the loose and unwashed produce will be destined to north European retailers. As for lamb's lettuce, a new format will be available this year, i.e. a flow-packed square tray containing 150 grams. Traditional and horn peppers transplants covering around 7/8 hectares will start in March, and the produce will be destined mainly to Italian supermarket chains to differentiate it from the spring/summer range. Harvesting will start in May," reports Alberto Nocera from Agrieuropa, a company located in Terracina (Latina).

Nocera also discussed winter vegetables and explained that "what we have noticed is that prices are rather good, so we are pleased, but demand from retailers and consumption are slow. We are hoping for things to pick up in spring."

"As for baby leaves, things went well in December, especially for lamb's lettuce, as demand was excellent with high quotations and good consumption. Spinach and baby spinach also did well, with prices that are remaining high. The situation of arugula is also good, though it is only a secondary product for us. Nonetheless, things have slowed down for baby leaves as well after Christmas. It would be ideal for temperatures to drop now, so as to slow down production."

Agrieuropa is currently starting harvesting operations of the spring transplants of light and dark-colored zucchini, which will be available until May. Zucchini are available all year round at the company, which located in the heart of the Agro Pontino area.
