“At Fruit Color, we were very happy to receive our first shipment of peaches from Chile. These were the first peaches from Chile in our history to be sold on the Chinese mainland,” says Kaimao Ye and Braulio Diaz from the Chilean exporter Gesex in China.
“This first air shipment arrived in China on December 13th and they are in high demand. It was actually pre-sold a few days before the arrival. There were 192 cartons of 6kg net weight. Each box was sold for around 500 RMB ($70). The feedback of the customers of the first shipment was very positive, they highlighted the good firmness, intense red colour, large sizes and acceptable flavour. We are working to increase the level of sweetness and will surely have improvements in the following arrivals,” states Ye and Diaz.
Ye is the Fruit Color Chinese office manager and Diaz is the Market Manager. Fruit Color is the commercial office of the Chilean exporter Gesex in China. It was founded in Hong Kong and Shanghai in 2014 as a member of an international network of offices established by Gesex in Europe and the USA in order to import, distribute and sell fresh fruit within mainland China. Their services range from imports, custom clearance and distribution to serving their customers in the wholesale markets, supermarkets and specialty stores. They also provide support to companies wishing to sell their fresh produce in China, by importing, distributing and invoicing local companies.

More Chilean peaches on the way
The Fruit Color and Gesex teams says this was the first of many more shipments. They are already actively working on importing several more containers of Chilean peaches to China this season. “Peaches are a very well-known fruit in China that are quite appreciated due to their great sweet flavour and pleasant texture. We have already received a second shipment that we are already selling and we are working on the sea-shipment. Our preliminary plan will be to import around eight to ten containers this season,” proclaim Ye and Diaz.
