Next week New Zealand will host the national cherry stone spitting championship

The New Zealand National Cherry Stone Spitting Championship is set to take place in Cromwell, at the McNulty House gardens beside Lake Dunstan, on December 27, 2023. This unique event attracts contestants of all ages, from young enthusiasts to experienced participants.

Last year, the competition saw a close trans-Tasman rivalry, with Aaron Collins from New Zealand and Simon Oliphant from Melbourne both achieving a 9.3 meters spit. Anna Bassett won the women's title with a 6.8 meters spit. Organized by Kelly Cruikshank-Giles of the Cromwell and Districts Promotions Group, the event promises fun for everyone with competitive spitting, lawn games for children, and an inviting atmosphere for both locals and visitors.
