Dutch company invests in innovative washing processes.

Wastechnology deep cleans (sweet) potatoes and vegetables, damage-free

You can now clean sweet potatoes and vegetables without causing damage. That is thanks to MCR Machinery and their exclusive collaboration with IWC, Innovative Water Concepts. These are both Dutch companies. Recently, MCR Machinery delivered a sweet potato washing line.

The washing line is fitted with the IWC-developed innovative Undine® cleaning technology. MCR Machinery specializes in machines for vegetable processing companies. By combining this washing technique with MCR Machinery machines, potato and vegetable processors can utilize this revolutionary washing procedure.

Jan Pieter Reijnoudt, MCR Machinery's owner, explains the process: 'Undine mixes water and air. This mixture of tiny water droplets and air is sprayed onto the products at high speed. That uses less water while the products are thoroughly washed," he says.

Dirt, bacteria, and fungi are completely rinsed away. A major advantage of this is that the products store better than those washed with standard systems, like brush and drum washers. The Undine® technique also saves at least 50% water.

Besides sweet potatoes, the MCR cleaning method with Undine® can be used for regular potatoes and various vegetables, such as carrots, parsnips, root parsley, red beets, pumpkins, zucchini, celery, leeks, spring onions, and radishes.

'With this technique, we can even thoroughly clean delicate products like bell peppers and strawberries. That's also our vision: clean fruits and vegetables for everyone. While being as careful as we can with the most precious element on our planet - water," Jan Pieter concludes.
