Coviro to attend ExpoSE in Karlsruhe on November 22-23

"We are ready for the asparagus root sales campaign"

"The asparagus root sales campaign is in full swing. They will be uprooted and processed starting from mid-February. Compared with last year, interest seems to be higher, as multiple producers have already put in their order," reports Mattia Cacchi from the Coviro technical office.

2023 was a not an easy year for Coviro. "Some of our cultivation areas were flooded in May, then a whirlwind hit in July. Due to the Savio river braking its banks, part of our facility where we grow strawberries and asparagus in Castiglione di Cervia was under 50 cm of water for 2/3 days."

"In addition, the whirlwind in July caused serious damage, also due to the hail. Nonetheless, asparagus nurseries managed to develop both the plants and the roots. We uprooted some of the material to verify this condition a few days ago and quality appeared very good in terms of both grade and health."

The Coviro catalog includes multiple varieties both in northern and central-southern Italy. Varieties of Italian origin such as Giove, Vittorio, Franco, Athos, Ercole and Eros - one of the most popular green varieties - are still very much in demand in northern Italy.

"In addition to these, we produce roots of Dutch origin such as Grolim, Vitalim, Prius (three varieties also suitable to obtain white asparagus), plus Magnus and Verdus. The latter is suitable for green asparagus and early harvesting, boasting large grades and a good flavor. This year we also have Daleza root available: the semi-early male hybrid by Enza Zaden suitable for white asparagus."

"In central-southern areas, Grande is still the main variety. Then there are more recent ones such as Vegalim, Starlim and Lunalim, a very early variety with excellent organoleptic qualities."

Coviro will attend ExpoSE 2023 in Karlsruhe, on November 22-23 (hall 2 - H24).
