Turkish industry parties request support of 2,250 Lira per ton for citrus exports

The average citrus crop is expected to be 6.4 million tons in the 2023-2024 season only in Mersin, Adana and Hatay provinces. A record production of around 7 million tons is expected in 2023 with the addition of other Turkish provinces.

Citrus (lemon, orange, grapefruit, tangerine, etc.) production has exploded. If these cannot be exported, they will remain in domestic market. For this reason, a support of at least 2,250 lira per ton is requested for citrus fruit exports 23 chambers, unions, associations and organizations in Adana, Mersin and Hatay.

Reminding that 1.9 million tons of citrus were exported last year and 3 million tons were consumed in the domestic market, the following evaluation was made regarding this season: "According to this year's projections, even if 2 million tons of the estimated Turkish production of 7 million tons is exported, 5 million tons will be consumed for domestic consumption."
