Southern Highlands districts should free up land for potato production

According to potato officers from the Fresh Produce Development Agency, Imbonggu, lalibu-Pangia and other Southern Highlands districts are quite suited to potato production. FPDA elite seed potato production and marketing officer Tiga Wauwe said they have already identified seed growers in the lalibu area. lalibu Basin parts of Upper Mendi. and Kaupena in Imbonggu that are now growing potato.

Wauwe: "Our potato inspections and certification program officers are doing routine inspection consistently to ensure our growers produce quality potato. People in Imbonggu, lalibu Pangia. Mendi and Kagua Erave districts have very good soil to grow potato. The altitude is right. Places around here are ideally situated at 1,800-3,000 metres above sea level. That's the right climatic condition where potatoes can flourish.”
