Start of the season at the Stuttgart wholesale market

"Large demand for Turkish early mandarins"

At the beginning of week 44, the first Turkish early mandarins of this year's season were traded at the Stuttgart wholesale market. "Compared to other years, we start the season two to three weeks later, but the goods are of high quality. With prices around 1.30 euros/kg, we can also offer the goods at affordable prices. Accordingly, demand for the first batches has already been very encouraging," reports Bünyamin Hamurcu, co-managing director of ALEM Ltd.

Parallel to the first citrus from Turkey, the pomegranate season there is now gradually starting to get going as well. Of course, there was a slight delay here also, the importer stated. "Seasonally, people are getting fed up with stone fruit, which is driving up demand for pomegranates. In addition to this, the balanced sweet and sour taste of the Turkish product cannot be compared at all with fruit from other source countries, such as Spain," says Hamurcu, who also points to the affordable prices and nice calibers.

Turkish pomegranates and tangerines currently dominate the scene in the goods receiving area of Alem Ltd.

Business is going well
For 20 years now, Alem has been a contact point for fruit and vegetables from all over the world. From its headquarters at the local wholesale market in Stuttgart, the company serves not only customers in Germany, but also in neighboring France. Despite the numerous challenges in the fruit trade, there is no sign of a dampened mood. On the contrary: "Business is still going very well," says Hamurcu.
