Melon prices in Uzbekistan continue to grow rapidly

A week ago, on October 10, 2023, EastFruit wrote about a sharp increase in wholesale prices for melon, which was the largest weekly change and a sharp increase in prices for this product over the past two and a half months. Over the past week, prices for these products continued to rise even faster.

According to EastFruit price monitoring, from October 6 to October 13, 2023, the average wholesale price for melon increased from 2800 to 3500 sum/kg (from $0.23 to $0.29), i.e. by 25%. A week earlier, wholesale prices for these products increased by 22%.

Considering the increase in melon prices for the second week in a row, from September 29 to October 13, 2023, the average wholesale price for fresh melon in Uzbekistan increased from 2300 to 3500 sum/kg (from $0.19 to $0.29), i.e., one and a half times over the past two weeks.

As can be seen from the graph above, due to the opposite price dynamics in the first half of October of this year and last year, the price gap between current and last year’s levels continues to increase sharply. As of October 13, 2023, the average wholesale price for melon in Uzbekistan is 2.7 times higher than at the same date last year. Moreover, current wholesale prices for these products are at record highs for the same period.

However, despite the rapid rise in prices over the past two weeks, current wholesale prices for melon in Uzbekistan remain at the lowest level, where the EastFruit international team monitors wholesale prices for fruits and vegetables on a weekly basis. As of October 13, 2023, the average wholesale price for fresh melon was (in US dollars per 1 kg): Uzbekistan – $0.29; Georgia – $0.37; Tajikistan – $0.46; Moldova – $0.77; Ukraine – $1.37.
