Bags made of waterproof paper took center stage at the Dsmart GmbH booth at Fruit Attraction in Madrid. The company, founded in 2015 and based in Beselich (near Montabaur), deals with the distribution of modern fruit and vegetable packaging for the European-wide market. The packaging is manufactured in the company's own packaging factory in the Chinese province of Guangdong.
"We have been offering our paper bags for table grapes since last year, and in two sizes, namely 1 kg and 500 grams," Managing Director Huiliang Dan tells us on site. "Especially in the classic grape-growing countries, i.e. Italy and Spain, our packaging is enjoying increasing popularity. We also notice that Europe has now largely switched to paper bags, while the U.S. still relies a lot on plastic."

The company exhibited at both Fruit Logistica and Fruit Attraction this year. "Due to the low production costs in China compared to European countries, we are an attractive supplier for many customers. Nevertheless, we also plan to have a factory in Germany in the future so that we can respond to requests more quickly and agilely, given the shorter transport distances, and accordingly serve our customers even better," Dan concludes.
