Tomato prices rise in August, but no new record month

The average European tomato price fell back to its five-year high in August, as it did in March. This means the price is still high, but August is not a record month. On average, a kilo yielded €1.42.

On the European Commission's tomato dashboard, cherry, and specialty tomatoes again stand out in the August update. The price of these tomatoes is more than 200% higher in the Netherlands than the five-year average.

The price for vine tomatoes (over 78%) and loose, round tomatoes (over 65%) is also higher in the Netherlands than the five-year average. Compared to July, an increase in prices can be seen, as was already noticeable from the important VBT reference prices. We can rightly speak of a July dip now that prices have risen again.
