“We have a lot of experience in the Asian markets from South Korea, Japan China and Thailand. We also export to Europe working mainly with Spain and the Netherlands. In the U.S. we work on both the West and East Coast markets.”

Fruit Farm are growers, packers and exporters with 540 hectares in Gaucho located 150 km North of Lima, Peru. Their core products are avocado’s and mandarins. The Hass variety is their main avocado type with the varieties for mandarins namely Tango and W. Murcot. “We currently export about 60 containers to the Asian market and 30 to Europe while we send about 150 containers to the U.S. market. In the past five years our growth has been focused the most on the Asian markets. In our case we doubled our volume to South Korea. In China there’s a lot of people asking for our product. We try not to work with too many people in China, but with two or three partners that can grow with us,” states Quillay.

He says they are looking to increase exports to other Asian markets where there is interest for their products. This was confirmed with the many visitors and meetings they had at their stand as part of the Peru country pavilion at Asia Fruit Logistica last week. “There is Indonesia, India and Thailand that we are planning to grow, which are not well developed markets for Peru. We export mainly avocados to these markets with about 80% of our volumes making up this product. About 20% of our volumes are for mandarins,” concludes Quillay.
