The World Avocado Organization (WAO) has ended its 30th collaboration with distributors, establishing agreements with renowned supermarkets in 12 countries, and more than 35,000 stores, tripling its support to the retail sector throughout the United Kingdom and Europe since 2021.
Avocados have conquered the palate of consumers around the world, and the World Avocado Organization (WAO) remains firm in its commitment to guarantee the promotion of this versatile fruit, as well as all its properties, in order to encourage its consumption. In addition to its expansion to 30 leading distributors in the UK and Europe, WAO supports its retail partners to help raise consumer awareness directly at the point of sale, whether in-store or online.
WAO is currently present in more than 2,000 stores throughout Spain, including Carrefour, Eroski, and Caprabo.
WAO campaigns targeting individual markets are strategically designed to establish avocados as a staple product in the European diet. In particular, avocado consumption in the United Kingdom stands at 1.5 kg per capita, behind Denmark (3 kg per capita), Spain (2.5 kg per capita), France (2.2 kg per capita), and Sweden (1.9 kg per capita)*. In addition to its success throughout Europe, the WAO has had a successful campaign in India, which has stood out as a growing market for avocado consumption.
In this collaborative approach, the WAO provides support to distributors by offering them a selection of materials and activities, such as in-store displays, impactful billboards and banners, in-store videos, floor stickers, and recipe information brochures. On the Internet, however, WAO has taken proactive steps to reach consumers through retailer websites, offering ideas to inspire them to prepare their meals, through strategically placed banner ads, innovative recipes, and category-specific promotions.
"We are thrilled to see that the avocado is becoming a staple product in kitchens and restaurants across Europe," stated Michael Horney, vice president of the World Avocado Organization (WAO). "Our collaboration with distributors is a clear reflection of the growing demand for avocados and their recognition as a nutritious superfood. We believe this expanded support will further educate consumers about the various health benefits of avocados. The increase in sales helps support WAO member avocado producer communities around the world. We must also thank our members for their joint efforts and willingness to help the avocado industry grow."
In addition to promoting avocado consumption, the World Avocado Organization continues to advocate sustainable and ethical agricultural practices.
