This spring, Ahmed Laasri founded Handelfresh in the Netherlands. "Our family business in Morocco has been active in the fruit and vegetable world for years, and so I came up with the idea of expanding that to the Dutch market," he says.
Ahmed wants to boost Moroccan fruit and vegetable exports further. "In recent years, there have been more and more vegetables like tomatoes, bell peppers, and string beans from there on the European market. As a proud Moroccan, I'd like to see even more of that country's vegetables being offered again."
"I know both cultures and languages. I, thus, see plenty of opportunities to be the ideal link between Morocco and the Netherlands. I'm sure we can positively affect local growers. Thanks to our strong relationship with growers, packing plants, and transport companies, we can deliver the freshest fruits and vegetables at competitive prices quickly. We sell our products in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Spain," says Ahmed.
"Moroccan cultivation and management systems offer huge potential in the coming years. Dutch technology, such as irrigation and machinery, means there's much investment. We strive to supply the world with high-quality Moroccan vegetables while embracing sustainable agricultural practices."
"Moroccan tomato and bell pepper exports should increase significantly next season. Last year, Spanish tomato exports fell drastically. Morocco had an advantage because of its low production costs. This season, I expect to see a lot of Moroccan tomatoes back on the Dutch market again," Ahmed concludes.
