In Belgium, the new Turkish fig season has started at Special Fruit. "The weather slightly delayed this year's Turkish fig season, but we've gotten great quality predictions," says Lieve Michielsen.
"We look forward to these tasty delicacies every year. Figs have been a beloved fruit for centuries because of their unique taste and nutritious properties. Of the many varieties grown worldwide, Aydin and Bursa figs from Turkey are known to be the sweetest and softest."

Special Fruit will begin getting figs from the Aydin region this week. Bursas, named for the area they originate, are expected from week 34. "People love this variety's excellent flavor and historical background. Bursa, in northwestern Turkey's climate and fertile soil are ideal for growing figs," explains Lieve. "This cultivation began hundreds of years ago and is important in the region's culinary and economic history."
Flavor and characteristics
"Its distinctive sweet, honey-like flavor is what sets Bursa figs apart. The medium-sized fruit has an easy-to-peel, thin skin, making the soft flesh easily accessible. The flesh is juicy and has a rich, sweet flavor that blends with a hint of nutty aroma. That makes Bursas suitable as both a refined snack and a delicious addition to various dishes," Lieve concludes.

Special Fruit offers its figs in different sizes and packaging:
