© Pronto Service GmbHhe plum season started for the company Pronto Service from Taufkirchen with produce from Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as Serbia, with produce from Moldova also part of the range. "They are characterised by good quality and will be in our range until around October/November," Sales Manager Alexander Kovacs (r) from Pronto Service GmbH tells us on site. "To start the season, we offer the Lepotica variety, after which we continue with the Stanley variety, which we offer until the end of the season."
Processors prefer Balkan products
According to her information, there are enough plums available from Germany, but stoning companies tend to prefer goods from the Balkans. "The quality of Balkan produce is more stable, especially as they are also more suitable for bakeries." The plums are mainly marketed in Germany, but occasionally goods are sold abroad on request, he said. "In 2022, there was a relatively large amount of German produce on the market. Although the quantities this year should also be sufficient, lower quantities than last year are to be expected. However, due to the weather caprices, it can quickly happen that there will be harvest losses, but of course this cannot be said with certainty."
Maximum freshness guaranteed
On the one hand, the plums are marketed loose in 6-kg trays, on the other hand, also in 1-kg trays, especially for the food retail trade. "We can pack the goods 'just-in-time' on site. This allows us to pack exactly the quantity to be delivered directly to the customer, which also allows us to ensure the highest level of freshness. The demand for melons is naturally higher in view of the heat. However, there is a shortage of some quantities in the growing areas, which is why the price is correspondingly higher."
Focus on Italian goods
Pronto Service specialises in produce from Italy. "We work with contract growers in Italy. In winter, one focus of ours is on the vegetable range. Here, we cooperate with many producers throughout Italy, for whom we coordinate distribution. However, we also receive requests for products such as plums from other origins."
The company, formerly located at the Munich wholesale market, first moved into the new warehouse in Taufkirchen in November 2022. "The location is very central, the connections are also ideal. In view of the delays in recent years, especially during the pandemic, it was the right decision to come here. The bundling effect means that more companies are attracted here." He added that the site is particularly well suited as a goods transshipment point.
