"Cauliflower is much cheaper than broccoli right now so we are encouraging chefs to use it”

The heatwave in the UK during June caused a shortage of cauliflower, but the recent warm weather with plenty of rain has brought on the crop.

“We are sourcing cauliflower from Lancashire at the moment,” said Eddie Gill from Class One Fresh Produce who supply hospitality, caterers and schools across the north of England. “There is a good supply and we like to support growers and source locally if there is availability but will import or source from other areas of the UK if we need to.”

“Quality and size are both very good at the moment, the caulis have lovely white heads and ‘squeak’ in the box. The chefs we supply like to buy local if the product is available and affordable, we like to encourage this and let them know what is going at a good price so they can include it on their menus. We like to help each other out.

“For example, cauliflower is much cheaper than broccoli right now so we are encouraging chefs to use it.”
