In Europe, Futura srl focuses on robots to deal with lack of labor

Fresh produce segment growing in former USSR Asian countries

While the fresh produce sector is experiencing both positive and negative aspects in many areas in Europe, other areas are going through significant developments. Futura srl, specialized in sorting and packaging technologies, is abreast of the situation.

Leonardo Papi (sales manager for Italy) and Omar Papi: a family passion!

"Futura constantly follows all the CIS markets also thanks to its branch in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). In addition to the most evolved markets of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, the countries that have given us the best results and greater satisfaction have been Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, which are highly specialized in the production of apples, apricots and table grapes. They also represented a great surprise, considering that they are less developed in the area in question and with respect to the surrounding countries," explained manager Omar Papi..

"But we also follow various countries in Africa - especially Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Ethiopia - where we have already installed various avocado processing lines. Another area we have been increasingly following is that represented by the Arab countries, mainly Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates."

"We want to work with emerging and less-traditional countries. For example, 90% of our June turnover came from exports, mainly to extra-EU countries. Our objective is to 'accompany' and lead our clients to making technological investments that can create added value. In what way? By exporting its products to European, American and Russian distribution chains. Many of our clients are entering this 'world' for the first time, so they need a partner to guide them. Another fundamental aspect is the extreme care we take of our clients and the experience we put in when designing, producing and installing systems and training operators: we believe client training is a fundamental aspect."

"As for traditional and evolved markets, we need to study solutions to solve the great problem that is the lack of labor. For this reason, for our European clients, we are introducing automatic palletizing and handling systems that also employ robots."

"We are currently testing two tomato processing plants in Abu Dhabi (UAE) and Saudi Arabia KSA. Before the end of the summer, we would also like to install two systems in Italy - one entirely new for celery and another for kiwis and stone fruit. Then four busy months await us after the summer break, with systems to be delivered and installed in Iran, Romania and Greece, to name a few."
