The Indian Barhi date exporters are looking at a bumper crop this year. According to Himant Chavda, chairman of Indian fresh produce exporter Krish International, this is partly thanks to the good weather conditions during cultivation: “The fresh Barhi date season in India has kicked off last week, as the 25th of June marked the start of this year’s season. Our Barhi dates are cultivated in an organic manner and we are quite hopeful about the larger volume this year. India is quite early with the start of the dates, as other origins will come later. This means the current situation is very good for us as Indian date exporters. On top of that, the weather has been very suitable for the cultivation of Barhi dates, so we expect bumper crops for this fresh date variety.”
Chavda goes on to state that the demand for the dates is thankfully up to par for the volumes they’re expecting. “With the good weather in mind, it’s logical to assume we’ll have more volumes this year, and will also export more volumes this season. The market is now stable and all of our buyers are very well prepared with their back channel distribution. Our buyers are eager for the Barhi date export to get going, so demand will not be an issue this year.”
“Demand right now is quite strong, but demand has been good before the season even started. We’re seeing many orders for the Barhi dates from all over, but demand is especially strong in European countries, Canada, the Gulf region as well as Asian territories. This means we’ll have to prepare the orders for very different areas in the world, for which our team is very excited. We’ll have to make sure we meet all of the various buyer requirements,” Chavda concludes.
