On the back of the Memorandum of Understanding on Belt and Road Initiative cooperation, China and Italy have been exploring strategic, forward-looking and mutually beneficial paths of cooperation. According to Liu Jianchao, head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, the signing of the MOU between China and Italy will set an example for countries to build a similar network of cooperative partnerships.
"China appreciates the positive role over the years played by the Italy China Council Foundation and the Italian business community in promoting practical cooperation between the two countries, which injected impetus into China-Italy and China-EU cooperation," said Liu.
He noted that China-Italy economic and trade cooperation enjoys a solid foundation, strong momentum, huge potential and broad prospects. Business leaders of both countries have a strong desire to deepen mutually beneficial partnerships.
Trade in agricultural products between the two countries reached $1.7 billion dollars in 2022, up 3 percent year-on-year, according to statistics from the GAC.
