Aldi’s British apples and pears will be provided exclusively by Kent fruit farmer AC Goatham & Son, based in Rochester
A family-owned Kent fruit farm has signed a £30mln deal with Aldi to exclusively supply the supermarket giant with British apples and pears. The contract has been awarded to Rochester-based AC Goatham & Son which has 26 farms all over the county, producing Royal Gala apples, Braeburn apples and Conference pears.

New Zealand: More than a third of us throwing away valuable nutrition
The humble broccoli, a Kiwi family favourite, is currently being thrown away in staggering amounts. Each year, more than 282 tonnes, or the equivalent of a blue whale of stems are being added to our household landfill waste. Richard Burke, CEO of LeaderBrand, a large grower of broccoli, says that this is a staggering amount of waste and a huge waste of money. “It might come as a surprise, but broccoli stalks are edible and they taste great. A third of us (37%) are throwing them away! It’s such a waste”, he says.

British supermarket Morrisons cuts prices of nearly 50 products
British supermarket Morrisons said it was cutting the prices of 47 products by an average of over 25%, in another sign that a surge in inflation might be set to abate. Morrisons, Britain's fifth largest supermarket group, said products subject to the latest price cuts included beef mince, ham, tomatoes, spinach and wholemeal pittas.

Lidl Bulgaria opens new store in Pernik
Supermarket chain Lidl Bulgaria, a unit of German discount store operator Lidl Stiftung & Co, said that it opened its third store in the western city of Pernik. The store, spanning 1,400 sq m, brings Lidl Bulgaria's network to 119 locations in total, the company said in a press release, without disclosing the size of the investment.

Rallye, the holding company behind debt-ridden French supermarket retailer Casino, said that it had reached a deal with its creditors. "Under the terms of this agreement, the relevant creditors waived their right to trigger any event of default resulting from the opening of the conciliation proceedings in favor of Casino by the President of the Commercial Court of Paris on May 25 and announced by Casino in a press release dated May 26", said Rallye.

Two vegetable harvesters in the Montreal area are partnering with a local food bank to provide more organic produce for those in need in the city.
