Donna Bella Farms in Berks County is closing; 161 people to be laid off

Donna Bella Farms in Berks County is closing and its leased mushroom growing operations will permanently cease operations. The company filed a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry informing the state that approximately 161 people will be laid off.

Donna Bella Farms is a mushroom farm specializing in portabella, crimini and portabellini mushrooms since 2004; it 50 percent owned by the Giorgi Mushroom Company.

The Giorgi Mushroom Company will continue its operations and possibly expand. Giorgi anticipates that employee opportunities will be provided to a substantial number of Donna Bella Farms employees, the company said in the WARN notice.
