lavvell GmbH starts the Indian mango season

"We usually offer our mangoes until well into July"

Indian mango exports to Europe are now slowly but surely gaining momentum. "Our conventional mangoes from our own contract farming are flown in exclusively, as the produce is too fragile to survive shipping. We usually offer our mangoes under our own brand "ASHLEY's Fruits and Vegetables" until deep into July," reports Sebastian Schulz, owner of the company lavvell GmbH based in Düsseldorf.

India has always been considered the largest producer of mangoes in the world and offers a wide variety of over one hundred different varieties. "Around twenty varieties are suitable for commercial marketing. What makes Indian mangoes stand out in this regard is their higher Brix value and juice content compared to fruits from other well-known growing countries."

The range of varieties offered by lavvell GmbH consists of both table and industrial products for juice production. "We offer three varieties that are produced in different regions of India. The table variety Alphonso comes from Maharastra and is typically priced a little higher. This variety is already well established in Western sales markets. The large-caliber Badami mangoes from Andhra Pradesh weigh over 300 grams each and are also very popular as table mangoes on the local export markets. The industrial variety Kesar from Gujarat completes the range. It is taken mainly for juice and puree production, but is also used as a table mango."

lavvell GmbH is an internationally active company and provides advice and support to customers throughout the food sector. "We have customers in Germany and neighboring countries, but also more precisely in Eastern Europe, Scandinavia and the Baltic States. For our mangoes, we are looking in particular for wholesale customers as well as fruit processors," he concludes.
