Vince Persoon starts at European sales office Beta Best Produce

"Good sales of Peruvian pomegranates, especially a shortage of large sizes"

Last year, the Peruvian grower Complejo Agroindustrial Beta started a European sales office on the Dutch market, called Beta Best Produce. The company has a cultivation area of 5,500 hectares of blueberries, grapes, asparagus, avocados, citrus and pomegranates and is among the largest growers/exporters in South America.

Following Beta's joint venture in Spain known as Gimenez & Beta Internacional, it has expanded its commercial presence across Northern & Eastern Europe and the UK by establishing Beta Best Produce. The Netherlands remains a key hub for Peruvian produce and the company is excited to welcome Vince Persoon to its team there. Based in Poeldijk, Vince has several years of valuable trading experience across multiple European markets and will be on the ground to receive shipments, check quality and manage sales. Beta Best director Mike Soulsby says “We are delighted to have someone with Vince’s experience on board to help us develop deeper customer relationships across Europe from our base in the Netherlands.”

Storage and shipment takes place at Europe Retail Packing / Varekamp Coldstores in Poeldijk. Vince has great confidence in the start-up of the new sales office.

"We can distinguish ourselves on the market with products from our own cultivation under our own brand. I am convinced that this is extremely interesting for European retailers and wholesalers. They want to buy as close to the source as possible and we can offer the Peruvian range in the shortest possible line from the source to the end customer. This also applies to Spanish asparagus and blueberries, which we source from our colleagues at Gimenez & Beta."

Vince and the team will be busy the next few weeks, receiving and selling the first Pomegranate containers from its own farms. Shipments have been arriving from week 16 with a range of sizes available in the standard 3.8kg format. "Last week we received the first Peruvian pomegranates and we expect weekly supply for the next four to six weeks. There is a big shortage of large sizes on the market, small sizes are slightly more available, but overall we are satisfied about sales."

This will be followed by its first avocado containers arriving in May prior to the Nadorcott citrus season in July/August. With blueberries starting again in August and asparagus being an almost year-round product these days for Beta, there are some busy times ahead for the Beta Best Produce team.
