"When it comes to strawberries, families do not want to choose between flavor, food safety and sustainability"

Never compromising when respecting and pleasing consumers - this is the approach of OP Frutthera Growers, the company from Scanzano Jonico (Matera) owner of the Nicofruit as well as of the increasingly well-known Fragola Matera® brands.

"Flavor, health and sustainability are three requirements consumers value. These characteristics are exalted in branded strawberries. Families don't want to choose between good flavor, product safety and attention for the environment, they want all these elements combined," explains Francesco Nicodemo, president of the OP and owner of the brand.

Strawberries from Basilicata are an excellent Italian product. "Fragola Matera aims at being an excellence among excellencies. It was born thanks to our 30-year experience and the study of our territory. Varietal innovation is therefore at the basis of such a deep and persistent flavor, which conquers consumers and pushes them to buy the product again."

OP Frutthera has stood out over time thanks to its brave leaps: it has in fact been one of the first companies in southern Italy to have welcomed the challenge of integrated production already in 2000.

Recyclable Matera strawberry punnet

"We often use products that are employed in organic agriculture even though they cost more than the traditional chemical ones. Integrated pest management would enabled us to use highly-effective synthetic products against mold and rot. We instead choose to limit their use during the winter months during pre-harvesting to help degradation before harvesting, thus guaranteeing a better health and safety of products. Other points of strength are the use of useful insects capable of cancelling the action of those harmful to strawberry plants, or strengthened pollination via bees and bumblebees."

Useful insects

"We adopt agro-ecologic solutions that involve a rational use of water via drip lines and humidity detection probes to avoid waste. Packaging is completely recyclable and now fully compostable ('Nicofriendly). The most critical moment when it comes to emissions is packaging. That is why, over the years, we have opted for solutions that can take care of the product with an increasingly lower environmental impact."

Water saving

"Sustainability must not be a slogan, but a path. And, with Fragola Matera®, we can say we have reached an important point. We have made a pact with nature, and promises must be kept."
