The authorities of Transnistria introduced a duty on the export of local onions

Transnistria has imposed a duty of $0.7 per 1 kg on the export of onions to prevent an increase in prices on the domestic market. The Transnistrian government decided this on March 30th. The duty will be in effect until June of this year, until the beginning of the new harvest season.

From February to March 14th, 95 tons of cabbage, 165 tons of carrots, and 150 tons of onions were exported from Transnistria. However, the self-sufficiency rate of onions in Transnistria was 85% last year.

It's worth noting that onion prices in Moldova have increased several times this year. The reason for this is the export of Moldovan onions to neighboring Ukraine, where due to the ongoing war, onion production suffered, and a deficit formed in the country.
