Pineapple prices remain interesting in France despite the school holidays

Coming from Ivory Coast, Costa Rica, as well as Ecuador and Panama, pineapples are currently sold in France at 8 to 13 € [8.5 to 13.8 USD] per package for the big brands, and 8 to 10 € [8.5 to 10.6 USD] for the others. With low temperatures in the northern and southern hemispheres that have slightly impacted production, the products available mainly have the coloration 1 or 2. Because of the cold, the sap did not go up which affected the quantity of pineapples produced. But prices remain interesting despite the school holidays” for both importers and exporters, according to François Moran, because “when prices are too high, we avoid the abundance of promotions.”

In September 2022, François Moran had mentioned a very difficult situation for the sector in general, but the first trimester of this year “does not look too bad after all, even if we are not out of the woods yet.”

“Reflex” consumption
The demand remains stable, just like the prices. A “reflex” consumption because “the clients are used to buying 1 pallet or half a pallet so they continue, whether the market is at 10/12 or 14 euros [10.6/12.7 or 14.9 USD]. If consumption is stable, they assume that sales will also remain stable.”
