Tropical produce took center stage at Fruit Logistica

WP Produce, a Miami-based and family-owned grower, packer and shipper of Desbry® brand tropical fruits and roots, joined the trade fair for the global fruit trade, Fruit Logistica, held annually in Berlin.

A first-time exhibitor, WP Produce joined the SUSTA pavilion representing  Fresh From Florida and was among the 2,610 exhibitors from 92 countries. It featured its exclusive Desbry Tropical Avocado, a larger-sized variety that is slower to oxidize; guava and other exotic fruits including longan, mamey and star fruit.

“Our year-round tropical climate, fertile soils and robust farming community in Florida allow us to offer consistency in exotic produce,” said Desiree Pardo Morales, VP of WP Produce and founder of direct-to-consumer sister company Tropical Fruit Box. “We were honored in supporting U.S. agriculture at this international show where our produce supply chain can be maximized for other countries.”

Now in its 30th year, Fruit Logistica covers every sector of the fresh produce business and provides a complete picture of the latest innovations, products and services at every link in the international supply chain.

Thanks to support by SUSTA, the non-profit organization that facilitates agricultural trade between small to medium-sized southern U.S. companies and overseas importers, WP Produce and its Desbry brand showcased its sustainability efforts from farm to state-of-the-art packing houses to customers.

“Participating in the show was an incredible step for us as we continue to expand our sustainable produce offerings and distribution footprint, especially among key players on an international stage,” said Christopher Gonzalez, VP of sales.

WP Produce sources from growers that have top quality for that specific commodity and follow a stringent food safety program with traceability directly to the grove of origin. Desbry brand tropical and exotic fruits and roots come in shelf-extending packaging from the shipping container to retail delivery.

WP Produce founder, Willy Pardo, started the company in 1984 selling exotic and tropical produce to neighbors who could not easily find fruits and roots at their local grocery stores. Today, it is a full-line purveyor of tropical and exotic items and continues to be family owned and operated with Pardo’s daughter, Desiree Pardo Morales and his nephew Christopher Gonzalez.
