Limoré: slow sales but the Premium range stands out on the market

The Rocca Imperiale lemon campaign is in full swing, but the trend is not looking very good. "Sales have slowed down over the past 10 days. While last year we used to ship 9 pallets every day, we now ship 5 on average. There is no substantial difference when it comes to orders between the Italian and foreign markets. We deliver the produce to markets and supermarkets in Switzerland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Poland, Belgium and the Netherlands," explains Pietro Buongiorno, president of Cooperativa di Produttori di Limoni associati di Rocca Imperial, which commercializes lemons under the Limoré brand.

Packaging of the Premium range

The idea of creating a Premium range - both single and double-layered - led the cooperative to increasing the number of active clients over the past month. "In addition to the larger grades, operators are attracted by the quick productive process compared with the standard one. Our Premium edible-peel lemons are harvested, packaged and shipped in 8-10 hours. Organoleptic qualities reach the maximum expression, including juice yield and limonene percentage. The produce also has an excellent shelf-life and the aroma lasts for weeks."

Manual packaging of the fruits

Over the next four years, the cooperative is aiming at becoming a PO, also thanks to the many young groves that will become productive. "I feel the need to make an appeal to all local producers, asking them to take a company like ours as an example as, although established only 4 years ago, we have become successful in Italy, abroad and overseas. In a difficult moment characterized by economic uncertainty, it is useful to reunite in cooperatives able to improve the added value of our product, which has been damaged by profiteering for years. Aggregation and cooperation can always make a difference."
