Peter Schiffmann from A+P Service on sustainable packaging technology

"Packaging technology with tray flexibly adapts to the fruit and size range to be packaged"

Peter Schiffmann has been dedicated to sustainable sorting and packaging technology for fruit and vegetables for many years. As an industry supplier, this means he has been actively involved in shaping and accompanying the market launch of numerous sealable and reusable solutions from the very beginning. "The latest highlight in terms of sustainable packaging technology is the proven and reliable knotter system that Baumeister has developed in close cooperation with ARC from France," says Schiffmann.

With the help of the sophisticated plant technology, cardboard trays of any size can be closed flexibly and efficiently with sustainable twine. "Pack sizes of 4 to 8 apples, for example, can be packed in the tray regardless of fruit and tray size, as the packaging technology adapts with the tray of the fruit being packed. Depending on the fruit feed and size, up to 52 cycles per minute are possible," says Schiffmann, describing the potential of the system. In addition, he says, the line can be integrated and coupled into any existing line and can be supplied with a tray filling system and dispenser.

User-friendly and efficient
According to Schiffmann, the fruit to be packed can be labeled from both the bottom and the top. "What also makes the solution stand out, of course, is that the fruit in question is also clearly visible in the transparent wing tray, which is why the customer can actually see what he is buying at the POS. From the packer's point of view, it is a low-maintenance design with high efficiency. The important thing here is precisely that the technology is relatively uncomplicated and user-friendly."

The energy-efficient system can be used immediately without any start-up time, Schiffmann continues. "There is no need to change over to other packaging sizes. In the application, there are also no changeover times to new pack sizes, which in turn has a positive effect on efficiency in production. Product detection ensures that the line runs continuously even when there is no product. What also speaks for the process is that the ambient temperature in production is insensitive to the system."
