Customers visiting branches of Coles and Woolworths across Australia seem to be very concerned over the high price of mandarins as the cost of the fruit has skyrocketed in recent weeks. One Coles customer shared an image of the mandarin display at one Victorian store, showing them priced at $10.88 per kilo. Woolworths, meanwhile, has the fruit priced at an incredible $2.24 apiece on its website.

The Coles shopper’s social media post sparked a wave of comments from shocked supermarket shoppers. Others said they too had seen mandarins priced at inflated prices in recent days.
Supermarket responses
It’s understood both Coles and Woolworths are currently sourcing mandarins from overseas as they are out of season in Australia. A Coles spokesperson stated that the supermarket is committed to sourcing Australian produce as much as possible.
