Egyptian exporters are turning to North African markets, as they struggle to supply Russia

The tense global situation has disrupted markets and forced Egyptian exporters to look for other destinations for their products. Egyptian exporters have been particularly affected by the war in Eastern Europe, Russia being a market that massively absorbs Egyptian production.

The Egyptian group Alhabony, a major player in the export of a wide range of fruits and vegetables, has not been spared, according to its CEO Mr. Abdelkader Alhabony, who explains that "the situation in Eastern Europe as well as global inflation and the devaluation of the Egyptian currency have contributed to the increase of our costs and made the season difficult".

The group's CEO said he wants to turn to Egypt's neighbors in North Africa, such as Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco, as well as East Asia, to export its products. The exporter can also count on markets that are doing well, such as the European market, sub-Saharan Africa, some countries of Eastern Europe, and Brazil, where the Alhabony Group is well placed.

The company exports several types of fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, such as onions, garlic, artichokes, eggplant, paprika, sweet potatoes, white and green beans, fruits such as citrus and pomegranates, dates, and nuts. Alhabony adds, "We are adding new products and varieties every year, and we plan to strengthen our nut production and add new packaging".
