Shaanxi is one of the main apple-producing areas in China. Among them, the Yan'an Red Fuji apples are mainly characterized by high a sugar content, high crispness and good storage resistance. Since the lunar-solar terms that guide the agricultural affairs for traditional farmers this year are later than in previous years, the red Fuji production season was also delayed by about 10 days. Recently, FreshPlaza communicated with Mr. Wu of Shaanxi Huangtu Gaopo Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock Development Co., Ltd. to learn about the new season of Shaanxi Red Fuji apples.
"This year was supposed to be a bumper year, but due to the weather, the production of Red Fuji has dropped by about 30%, but the quality of apples has improved overall." According to Mr. Wu, this year, the production area suffered from frost damage during the flowering period in March, and hail during the fruit growing period in June, coupled with the lack of water and dry weather in summer, resulting in a drop in production. On the other hand, due to the reduction of fruit, the remaining apples could absorb more nutrients, and the farmer's management is relatively advanced, making the fruit larger than before. The sweetness also increased and the overall quality improved.
"Due to the decline in production, the price of apples has risen this year. Last year, the purchase price of the origin was ￥5.6-￥6.4/kg, this year the starting price is ￥6.4, and the purchase price has risen to ￥6.4-￥8.4/kg, with an increase of more than 20%. The market price has also risen. The wholesale volume of apples is still good, but the retail sales are slower. The high market price and the lack of consumer power are the main reasons."
Shaanxi Huangtu Gaopo Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock Development Co., Ltd. focuses on apple planting and wholesale. It has its own 200-hectare apple base, as well as its own cold storage and processing plant. Sales channels include wholesale markets in major cities such as large supermarkets (such as Fresh Hema, and Ali) in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, as well as online sales mainly on JD.com and Tmall.
