Almonds: Tehama County’s top crop in 2021

In 2021, Tehama County agriculture saw overall revenues of more than $330 million, an increase of 26 percent from the previous year, which was up $69 million. For the first time in more than 10 years, almonds became the number 1 gross value crop in the county, with a value of greater than $77 million. Almond production increased by 26 percent due to an increase in acreage and value per ton.

The number 2 crop was walnuts. Rulofson said walnuts have always been No. 1, but this year they dropped with a little decrease. She added they went under almonds, but they increased their value by 6 percent, with their value of more than $76 million,

Prunes came in at number 4, with a value of more than $25 million, an increase of 78 percent due to yield and value for time. Number 5 was olives valued at more than $21 million, an increase of 84 percent due to an increase in yields. Olive crops alternate production years, so the ag department staff expects next year, the yield will decrease.
