Grupo Intersur installs in Tordesillas its second new-potato production hub in Spain

Grupo Intersur, the leading company in the production and marketing of new potatoes in Europe, has inaugurated its new facilities in the Valladolid town of Tordesillas, where it will locate its second new-potato production hub in Spain.

This will be the company's second national headquarters, after the one located in San Jose de la Rinconada (Seville), where the new potato harvest season begins.

Grupo Intersur incorporates the region of Castilla y Leon in its production and marketing to more than 150 customers from all over Europe, mainly packagers, to increase and improve its commercial proposal on the European continent. Grupo Intersur will operate in Castilla y Leon through the combination of the agreement with preferential farmers and through its own cultivation.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Community Agrarian Policy and Rural Development of the Junta de Castilla y Leon, Juan Pedro Medina Rebollo, and the mayor of Tordesillas, Miguel Ángel Oliveira Rodriguez, who accompanied the top executives of Grupo Intersur in an event in which they highlighted the importance having the agricultural company in the region.

Angel Muñoz, CEO of Grupo Intersur, highlighted the importance of incorporating Castilla y León into the company. “This region is a priority for us. Its incorporation into the business will help us increase our services and meet the needs of our customers all over Europe, who are increasingly more demanding with the varieties and the specific quality of the product."

"Grupo Intersur's commitment to the region is real and sustained over time. We have investment objectives in Castilla y Leon that will lead us to have 500 hectares of production with a collection volume of 25,000 tons in the next three years."

During the week of the inauguration of the second producer hub in Tordesillas, Grupo Intersur started the harvest simultaneously in Spain, France, Portugal, and Italy (in the Veneto region).

State-of-the-art facilities
Grupo Intersur's second new potato production hub will be located in the La Vega de Tordesillas Agro-industrial Estate, where it has an industrial plot of 5,000 square meters, 3,500 of which will be used for the storage and handling of potatoes in cold rooms for direct supply to customers. The area also has a laboratory to check the quality of the products as well as loading and unloading docks.

The cold storage chambers currently have a storage capacity of 3,000 tons, but with a future cold potential of up to 10,000 tons.
