The average price of melon at origin in Almeria has increased by 125% this season

According to information shared by the Observatory of Prices and Markets of the Junta de Andalucía and prepared by Hortoinfo, melon has been sold at an average price of 0.90 €/kg in this campaign, i.e. 125% higher than in the previous campaign.

This is the average price, excluding VAT, that warehouses and marketers are paying farmers for all melon categories. This price concept does not include any type of costs attributable to the handling and marketing of the product, nor any commercial commission.

The biggest increase has been experienced by the Piel de Sapo melon, which has risen by 175%, going from an average price of 0.32 €/kg in the past campaign to 0.88 €/kg in this campaign.

The yellow melon had the second biggest price increase, as the average price paid to farmers increased by 141.18%, rising from 0.34 €/kg last season to 0.82 €/kg this season.

The average price of Gaul melon has grown by 139%, going from 0.41 €/kg in the 2020/2021 campaign to 0.98 €/kg in the 2021/2022 campaign.

Finally, the price of the Cantaloup melon has increased by 77.19%, as the average price paid to farmers went from €0.57/kg in the 2020/2021 campaign to €1.01/kg in the 2021/2022 campaign.
