This Thursday, the European Parliament's Committee on International Trade gave its consent to double the duty-free quotas for different agricultural products from Moldova (table grapes, plum, apple, tomato, garlic, cherries, and grape juice) after the European Commission proposed earlier this month to apply this measure for at least one month to help the country export its production despite the difficulties it is experiencing due to the impact of the Russian invasion to Ukraine and having lost the Ukrainian, Russian, and Belarusian markets.
Brussels estimates that duty-free volumes will amount to around €55 million, €10 million of which will be for plum quotas and €27 million for table grapes.
This relaxation of tariffs still needs to be approved by the European Parliament and the 27 Member States to be effective.
