Onion exports are currently quite busy, says Rèmy Tanghe of RTL Onions in the Netherlands. "We can keep ourselves pretty busy. There's now a lot less being exported to Africa. But that's not discouraging me. We're expecting some demand from Eastern Europe. And the processing industry demand will also continue. Since there's demand in every market, I hope we'll sell everything."
"There's ample supply. The good quality batches are, however, harder to find. I think prices will stay roughly the same for the rest of the season. It's around €0,09 to €0.10 at the grower's end. Good lots maybe get a little more, the poorer ones less. But I expect we can maintain this level for a while," adds the packer.

"Potatoes have also done fairly well until now. Industrial potatoes sales are rising particularly well. The more than €0.20 bale price means we're getting slightly expensive for exports. But the industry is going full steam ahead. So, potatoes will move more in that direction. Transport remains a hindrance, both overseas and towards Eastern Europe."
"The potato quality is a little inferior this year. All the varieties have some problem or other. Agrias and Fontane are suffering from hollowness. The Challengers are hard to store, which doesn't help the quality. But thanks to the good demand, we'll sell them all," concludes Rèmy.
