BLE market report week 46/2021:

'End of the domestic cauliflower season is imminent'

The end of the domestic cauliflower season is approaching: deliveries were limited. However, the quality was still convincing and so the customers gladly took up the domestic goods. Italian shipments formed the basis of the offer, obviously having expanded. There were French shipments as well, which arrived at more and more markets in the course of the week. Residual volumes from Belgium and the Netherlands supplemented the action, as did Spanish and Polish batches, according to the latest BLE market report.

Demand intensified on various occasions due to the autumn weather. Nevertheless, it could be satisfied without any effort. Volume-induced, the German articles often became more expensive. However, prices for Italian and French products generally went up as well. In Hamburg, demands of €9 per 6-pack and €10 per 8-pack were too much for customers; turnover stagnated.

Apples
Local Elstar, Jonagold and Boskoop dominated. So the assortment was wide and in principle there was something for every budget. The organoleptic characteristics of the items rarely left anything to be desired.

Pears
Italian Abate Fetel and Santa Maria continuously dominated, Williams Christ completed the supplies from Italy. The lodging of Turkish Santa Maria and Devici had improved slightly, so that they became more expensive on various occasions.

Table grapes
Italian shipments dominated the scene, with Italia, Crimson Seedless and Michele Palieri leading the way. Marketing was quiet and prices remained mostly at the level of last week.

Oranges
Spanish Navelinas obviously dominated the scene: Their presence expanded massively. Navel from Spain complemented as well as Navelina from Italy and Greece.

Small citrus fruits
Spanish clementines dominated the market. Overall, demand could not keep pace with the extended supply. Although demand intensified, therefore sellers had to lower their prices.

Bananas
Business was very mixed, so that both increases and reductions in price could be observed.

Lettuce
Iceberg lettuce came exclusively from Spain. Availability had expanded a little. The demand could be met without difficulty. The majority of prices trended downward due to a great supply.

Cucumbers
Spanish cucumbers dominated. The Central European season ended slowly: priority was still given to Belgian inflows. Dutch inflows dried up here and there during the week.

Tomatoes
Low temperatures noticeably dampened demand. On the other hand, the range was wide and easily sufficient to satisfy the demand.

Sweet peppers
Spanish batches formed the basis of the range. In terms of quantity, Turkish and Moroccan products followed. Demand was not particularly strong.
