One hundred exhibitors at Futurpera

Everything is ready for the 2021 edition of Futurpera, the event dedicated to the pear sector that will take place in Ferrara on December 2nd-4th 2021. In a year characterized by a significant drop in production - around -75% in Italy due to the frost in spring - the event will discuss a chain dealing with insect and disease problems.

The press conference on Wednesday, November 24th 2021 at the Ferrara City Hall

"Pears must be defended from a series of phytopathological, climatic and commercial problems which, this year, have created an unprecedented reduction in production. CSO Italy has worked to organize a convention to provide concrete answers for a more specialized production supported by research and innovation."

Paolo Bruni, CSO director

The event will start on December 2nd with UNAPera, an entity that aims at aggregating 70% of businesses. On December 3rd, there will be a technical convention to discuss issues such as the effects of climate change on fruit cultivation and the possible solutions, the fight against phytopathologies such as brown rot and the brown marmorated stink bug and the use of biotechnologies.

On December 4th, there will be the "Pera dell'Emilia Romagna IGP, un'eccellenza del territorio" cooking show, organized in collaboration with Consorzio Pera IGP dell'Emilia Romagna and Istituto Alberghiero Vergani-Navarra di Ferrara, to get to known and savor pear varieties from Emilia Romagna.

OI Pera president Gianni Amidei

Gianni Amidei, president of OI Pera, a partner of Ferrara Fiere, explained that: "We have supported this event from the start because it is the only single-product fair that represents the entire international chain. It is a necessary initiative because pear production has been dropping for the past 20 years due to the various phytopathologies and plant decline. This drop puts the entire sector at risk and has truly become an emergency over the past three years due to the frost that have damaged 50 to 80% of orchards."

"To support and relaunch the segment, we focused on scientific research to tackle the brown rot e stink bug problems in collaboration with bodies and universities. We will discuss various promising projects during the convention of December 3rd. Over the past year, we have also studied alternatives with the development of non-GMO techniques to give hope to our producers. The chain can and must do a lot so we must collaborate as much as we can on all levels."

At the centre, the president of Ferrara Fiere Congressi Andrea Moretti

Ferrara Fiere Congressi works on the territorial promotion of agricultural economy and, this year, it has organized the event directly. President Andrea Moretti explained that: "FuturPera is a great confirmation for Ferrara Fiere. It is the only event that has not been postponed. This year, over one hundred companies will be taking part, specializing in the following sectors: research, nursery, crop protection products and pesticides, production, harvesting and post-harvesting, agricultural mechanization, logistics, packaging, commercialization and import-export."

"I am also proud to say that, in 70% of cases, they are large companies, even multinationals, located in Emilia-Romagna where agriculture is strong and innovative despite the difficulties. We have been working on this edition for two years and, in 2020, there was a digital event thanks to the collaboration of CSO Italy that enabled us to discuss topics that need our attention also through the exchange of ideas and information."

The Salone Internazionale della Pera will open on December 2nd and 3rd between 9 am and 6.30 pm and on December 4th between 9 am and 2 pm. The inauguration will be on December 2nd at 12. Entry is free, but visitors need to register preferably at www.futurpera.com to avoid gatherings or directly at the fair. To access the halls, visitors need a Green Pass, which can also be obtained with a negative rapid test.
