Frank Krier, BayPack Ltd:

"Short-term ad hoc measures will continue to be difficult to manage next year"

As a manufacturer of cardboard packaging, BayPack Ltd has been focusing on packaging for the asparagus and strawberry sectors for several years now, in addition to its traditional markets of dairy products or meat and sausage. BayPack produces customized products as well as standard packaging for asparagus, such as 1.5 kg cartons or 5 kg asparagus boxes, either neutral or printed with an individual customer design. Smaller trays, displays or baskets for 500g strawberries, 1kg strawberries or 2kg blueberries are also part of BayPack's product range.

"In terms of demand for ecologically sound products, there has been tremendous momentum in terms of new requests," says Frank Krier.  "We have our own development department and produce the packaging at our plant in the Allgäu region. After many years, we can see increasing demand, not only in the DACH region (Austria, Germany and Switzerland) but also in Poland, Belgium and the Netherlands."

Large market price increases made cardboard and paper-based packaging materials more expensive. "The raw material known as cartonboard has seen several price rises this year, coupled with enormous energy and logistics price increases. However, the market is accepting this and recognizes that it must and can act accordingly here," Krier says confidently. Ultimately, the key factor for all market participants is a high level of delivery capability, and here Baypack can demonstrate its strengths thanks to its integration into the HZI Group.

Nevertheless, long delivery times for carton packaging - of up to twelve weeks - are currently to be expected. "Short-term ad hoc measures will also be difficult to manage next year. We are trying to cope with this as best we can, by making appropriate advance arrangements with our customers and by building up stocks of standard packaging."

As BayPack Ltd will be making an appearance at this year's expoSE, the BayPack team is looking forward to seeing its customers again.
