Nationwide food retail marketing takes place under brand name Bimi® Broccoli

Trial cultivation successfully started: First broccoli is being harvested at Pfalzmarkt eG

In a German first, Pfalzmarkt für Obst und Gemüse eG is harvesting Bimi® broccoli for the first time. Andreas Röß from Frankenthal is the first Pfalzmarkt producer who has now started harvesting the broccoli in the Vorderpfalz. In the southern Palatinate, the trialled Bimi® broccoli harvest came a few days later: the plants at Pfalzmarkt grower Markus Günther from Kandel have also developed very well. Since he planted his seedlings a few days later at the beginning of July, further harvesting can now be delayed and staggered, in accordance with the cultivation plan. This gives Pfalzmarkt eG advantages in marketing the first Bimi® broccoli from German soil.

Delicious product innovation grown exclusively by Pfalzmarkt eG
In order to better communicate the many advantages of the product innovation to both partners in food retailing and consumers, the delicious broccoli will be grown and sold in Germany exclusively by Pfalzmarkt eG as a brand.

The first harvest from Pfalzmarkt eG looks good: Bimi® broccoli is a special broccoli variety with a mildly sweet and slightly nutty flavor. It is more tender than standard broccoli and can be eaten whole. Photo credits: Pfalzmarkt eG

Bimi® Broccoli: Healthy, with a mild, slightly nutty taste
Bimi® Broccoli is a special broccoli variety with a mildly sweet and slightly nutty taste. It is more tender than standard broccoli and can be eaten whole. Whether roasted, grilled, boiled, steamed or even raw - the delicious and visually beautifully grown broccoli stalks are on the table in just a few minutes. Thanks to short preparation times, all valuable nutrients are preserved: Bimi® broccoli is rich in fiber, protein, folic acid, potassium and vitamins A and C.

Premiere cultivation finds good growing conditions in Palatinate
As the successful trial cultivation shows, the Palatinate - as the largest outdoor vegetable growing region in Germany - offers very good growth conditions for Bimi® broccoli. The plants have a fast growth cycle and several harvesting cycles can be carried out. The crop is labor-intensive. Specialists are needed for cultivation and harvesting. The two Pfalzmarkt growers Andreas Röß and Markus Günther benefit from their many years of expertise, experience and passion in growing broccoli! To ensure that the two Pfalzmarkt growers have the best possible understanding of the special requirements that the plant poses in cultivation, they are advised and supported in trial cultivation by a Bimi® brand agronomist. An expansion of Bimi® broccoli cultivation is planned for 2022.

Sakata Vegetables Europe and Coregeo®, the global and pan-European main licensor of the brand, have granted the exclusive cultivation license for Bimi® broccoli in Germany to Pfalzmarkt eG. Hans Renia, Food Chain Manager Germany at Sakata Vegetables Europe explains: "To ensure that the trial cultivation in Germany's vegetable gardens delivers reliable results, several tens of thousands of Bimi® broccoli plants are cultivated at both locations. The harvest volume cannot be predicted at present. An expansion of the cultivation is planned for 2022."

Excellent market potential for food retail partners
A fresh and healthy diet is fully in vogue among consumers nationwide. With new fruit and vegetable specialties from Pfalzmarkt eG, which are quick, easy and extremely versatile to prepare, partners from retail are eager to grab them. Pfalzmarkt CEO Reinhard Oerther says: "Bimi® Broccoli is a real trendsetter, ideally suited for a healthy and uncomplicated cuisine and appealing to different consumer groups."
