WorldFood Moscow began on Tuesday. Dutch wholesaler, Hoofdman- Roodzant was there, as always. According to Lennart van den Heuvel, participation is not disappointing. The event is just rather minimalistic.
Other Dutch exhibitors include Interko. This company designs, manufactures, and installs fruit ripening rooms.
The exhibitors' list indicates that there is no Belgian presence. There is, however, quite a large Russian, Azerbaijani, Italian, and Turkish contingency.
Lennart says Russia's fruit and vegetable market situation is very similar to elsewhere. "Retailers are taking over the market."
"They're squeezing out traditional importers. But, Russia remains a very complicated market. That's why our company also serves as a link between sources and Russian (retail) customers."
This week, Russia again extended its boycott on European food products by another year. It will run until December 31, 2022. The country introduced this dairy product, meat, fruit, and vegetable import ban in August 2014. It came in response to punitive measures imposed by the West. That was in the wake of the Ukraine conflict. This embargo affects the EU, US, Australia, Canada, and Ukraine.
