TSI Italia's top management is extremely satisfied with the first Veneto Open Day of the seeds company, which in recent years has carried out a number of trials for the production areas of central and southern Italy (see Freshplaza of 06/25/2021) and northern Italy. Hence, the activation of the R&D department of TSI Italia to verify and concretize the feasibility of developing some varieties you can find in the north-east of Italy and, more specifically, in Buttapietra, in the province of Verona, where the event was held.
The hosting farm was Soc. Agr. Accordi Renato & Figli, who set up a remarkable greenhouse showcasing a number of varieties from the TSI Italia range, including the new elongated tomato Mr. Green F1, the salad tomato Salmeron F1 and the oxheart tomatoes called TOP2409 - Zigone, Zeta F1 and CDB1703.
The event provided the opportunity for the national launch of the new
TSI Italia catalogue (click here to access the catalogue) with all the novelties on tomatoes. The event was attended by specialists, who were provided with information and interaction with the TSI Italia team on transplanting cycles and the main characteristics of the varieties on display.
The elongated Mr. Green F1 is an oblong tomato with a very consistent fruit and a good green color, also suitable for red fruit harvesting. The variety has a very high tolerance to apical rot and a very good fruit set, even at high temperatures. Size 130-160 grams.
Oxheart The TOP2409 - Zigone oxheart is the smallest one, which is characterized by a great uniformity of the fruit and cluster (an element which is increasingly requested by the GDO); the fruit has a marked green shoulder which makes it very attractive; size 180-230 grams; the Zeta oxheart is characterized by a larger size, 200 - 250 grams, and by the presence of a less marked green shoulder; CDB1703, the newest oxheart to complete the range is characterized by a rustic, healthy plant with good vigor; the fruits have more evident ribbing and a larger size (250-280 grams), and are characterized by a uniform color and a slight green shoulder, which is fully reduced at maturity if combined with good leaf coverage; it prefers summer transplants, in greenhouses and open fields.
Salmeron The Salmeron, with its highly uniform fruit weighing 280-300 grams, is characterized by a high specific weight and an excellent taste for this type of fruit. The berry has a characteristic rounded, slightly flattened shape and is dark green with an even more intensely colored shoulder.
