Traceability plays a major role in efficiently designed business processes. That's why the Dutch company, JEM-id, developed a scanning project for Growers United and its members. This solution ensures that the organization has direct insight into traceability and production progress. To show how this process works, Growers United and JEM-id produced a video.
Efficient logistics thanks to software and fully automated warehouse
Growers United is a cooperative of and for vegetable growers. Its focus lies with greenhouse vegetable cultivation, packaging, and sales. The coop's new location, in the Netherlands, has a fully automated warehouse. Its entire aim is to make fresh produce logistics flows as efficient as possible.
"We're happy with this JEM-id partnership. The ‘Scannen op de tuin’ (Scanning in the garden) project lets growers, transporters, and storage staff work far more efficiently. Also, the overview of the entire logistics chain, from grower to customer, has greatly improved," says Patricia Gardien of Growers United.
Digital overview via GreenCommerce and GreenXchange
Growers United uses the GreenCommerce fruit and vegetable software package. JEM-id developed this. It supports them in their daily work. It allows them to serve customers and growers properly. Growers United's members use the online grower platform GreenXchange. It's linked to GreenCommerce.
This platform is not only used to process orders and stock. You can arrange transportation and manage other crop registrations too. The new JEM-id development will further improve the cooperation between Growers United and its growers. That's because the organization will know exactly which pallets have been filled. And which are on their way to their two packaging locations.
Improved traceability
This is how the process works. Growers receive orders via GreenXchange. They then fill the pallets, giving each a sticker with a unique code. The pallets are scheduled for transport and assigned to a carrier. Drivers scan the pallets that actually go into the truck. Drivers can scan the pallets on their own. So, they can load at night too. As soon as the truck leaves, the information is immediately available to Growers United. That provides a good picture of the rolling stock.
When the pallets reach the packaging facility, the automated warehouse scans them. They are then further processed. Because each pallet has a unique ID, pallet level traceability is guaranteed.
