Migros and Bio Suisse intensify cooperation

Migros and Bio Suisse will be working even more closely together in the future. From now on, the high standards of Bio Suisse will also apply to processed and imported Migros organic products. With this step, Migros and Bio Suisse want to work together for more sustainable agriculture.

The trend toward increased sustainable and healthy eating was accelerated by the Corona pandemic. In Migros, the sales target of 10 percent with organic food was exceeded in 2020. Migros is taking this as an opportunity to further develop the existing organic guidelines.

In this context, Bio Suisse and Migros are intensifying their cooperation. As the umbrella organization for organic agriculture in Switzerland and abroad, Bio Suisse has been investing in the further development of its guidelines for 40 years and is today one of the associations with the highest organic standards worldwide. Already today, all organic products from Switzerland in Migros come from Bio Suisse farms. Now Migros will also implement the additional Bio Suisse requirements for processed products, such as fruit yogurts. Thanks to higher demand, it is now also possible to enforce the stricter Bio Suisse guidelines in terms of production and quality abroad. This means that in future customers can also count on the high Bio Suisse standard for imported products.

"As the largest Swiss retailer, Migros bears a great responsibility. We see it as our duty to continuously promote the sustainable cultivation of our products. Organic is an important pillar for more sustainability in Swiss and international agriculture," says Matthias Wunderlin, Head of Marketing at Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund Migros. "Migros Bio will meet the highest standards in the future. With the addition of Alnatura and Demeter, Migros offers a wide range of organic products for everyone."

More organic presence on the shelf
As part of the further development, the "Knospe" label will also be displayed on Migros Bio products, starting next year. "We are very pleased that Migros will be working even more intensively with Bio Suisse in the future and will be focusing on the Knospe," says Balz Strasser, managing director of Bio Suisse. "Bio Suisse stands for holistic organic farming and Migros is helping to develop this further and increase its visibility. This will give high-quality Swiss organic products a greater presence and even more consumers will be able to benefit from the large selection. This will give an additional boost to the rapidly growing organic market and again significantly increase the market share of organic in the Swiss food sector."
