Vortex mechanical vibrating grippers for increased yield and speed

"We innovate constantly and boast 16 types of equipment, with or without umbrella, depending on the self-propelled machine our final users already have available at their facility. This equipment is used for the mechanized harvesting of olives, almonds, pistachios, cherries, apricots, plums, etc. We have a solution for all kinds of crops. An example of this are the Vortex vibrating grippers, whose concept of operation is patented," reports Giacinto Lorusso, an engineer working at GL2 Costruzioni in Acconia di Curinga (Catanzaro).

"What is unique about these grippers is their camping mechanism and weight. The latter is 30% lower than that of competitors for any application. Depending on the self-propelled machine carrying the grippers and the mechanical arm used, the patented three-point contact gripper system with three coplanar pads grips plants in three points, unlike traditional grippers with two side pads. This enables a better adherence and damages the trees less, enabling the discharge of more mechanical impulses on the plant." Click here to watch a video.

This leads to an increased yield and speed. "Our grippers are lightweight and compact, and they are available in the Evo and J. Vortex J versions. They optimize the operating concepts of the bigger models to meet a specific market need, i.e. the possibility of being installed easily on mini-excavators, mini-shoves and Skids and small agricultural tractors."

Interceptor reverse umbrella kit
Conceived in line with GL2 standards focusing on compactness, maximum capacity for maneuver, weight and functionality, the reverse umbrella represents the top concept for the mechanization of harvesting sites. Click here for a video.

"Once the self-propelled machine, container and grippers are in place, we wrap the foliage with PVC so that all the fruits are collected during the vibrating phase. In companies with well-organized orchards on flat plots, this solution can harvest 95% of fruits. The operation takes 1 minute per plant."

It can also be easily uninstalled from the kit directly in the harvesting area so as to take advantage of the arm extension for taller branches.

Tax benefits for 2021
"A tax credit can be obtained upon signing the quote. The company's accountant can proceed immediately with the 45% tax deduction. To obtain the benefits for Industry 4.0, clients must instead purchase the self-propelled machine and application together. I would like to stress that we only supply the self-propelled machine, we do not manufacture it."
