Since December 2020, KNAPP IT 
Solutions LLC, the KNAPP Group's competence centre for SAP® EWM solutions, implementations and services, has been supporting the main warehouse of Frutura Obst & Gemüse Kompetenzzentrum in Hartl, Austria, with its SAP® EWM hotline. Another location in Vorchdorf, Austria, will follow at the end of 2021. The ITIL® certified hotline service is available to all SAP® EWM installations, including those from third-party providers.
The international programme of the food production and marketing company Frutura comprises more than 4,500 different fruit and vegetable items. From its headquarters in Hartl and the site in Sattledt, both in Austria, the company supplies all of the approximately 1,600 Austrian branches of the Spar supermarket chain. Every day, 70 trucks drive to the warehouse in Hartl. The Sattledt location currently handles about 15 per cent of this volume. A new warehouse in Vorchdorf is planned for 2021, which will handle a similar volume as the one at Hartl.
For warehouse management and the associated requirements for transparency and traceability in the origin and production of fruit and vegetables, Frutura uses SAP® S4/HANA with embedded SAP® EWM. In the system landscape, all operational processes are mapped via mobile devices (RF terminals), from goods receipt and quality control to handling unit management, picking of inventory, packaging and goods issue. Currently, around 200 SAP® EWM users from Frutura work in the warehouse management system. Due to the size of the orders and their punctual delivery, KNAPP supports them with 24/7 support for the warehouse in Hartl and Sattledt since December 2020 and the location in Vorchdorf from the end of 2021.
SAP® EWM expertise around the clock
The transfer of the warehouses to the KNAPP hotline support took place in stages, all within one month. This procedure enables the KNAPP hotline team to also provide support in the individual characteristics of Frutura's SAP® EWM. For this purpose, an evaluation workshop was set up in advance. On the basis of this, a customised offer was developed. Frutura and KNAPP are aiming for a long-term partnership. Therefore, an optimisation of the warehouse management system by KNAPP for the main site in Hartl is also planned from January 2021, as well as an expansion to the new warehouse in Vorchdorf from the end of 2021.
