Sales and prices pick up in second part of Valencian citrus campaign

The Valencian Association of Agricultural Producers (AVA-ASAJA) reports that in the second half of the citrus campaign there has been an increase in the volume of purchases by consumers and in the prices that producers receive. In a statement issued by the entity, they claim that the main cause of this increase is a greater balance in the supply, "lower than expected due to current climatic adversities", in addition to a demand that has increased thanks to the weather and a rising consumer interest in oranges.

Interest is mainly focused on late Navel oranges (with prices at origin that range between 0.353 and 0.447 € / kg) and, to a lesser extent, on Navel Lane Late oranges (€ 0.282-0.376 / kg). In the subgroup of mandarin hybrids, whose planting is mostly limited and regulated by protected commercial management systems, prices have increased by approximately 10% compared to the previous season.

The president of the organization, Cristóbal Aguado, said that the marketing problems experienced with some of the varieties, such as the Navelina orange or the Clemenules mandarin, have already been left behind. Consequently, operators have started to buy more citrus fruits to be able to supply the markets with the highest demand. Aguado said that "the market's objective factors should give us good prospects for the remainder of the campaign."
